In the Studio
This area of the exhibition shows the collector's strong affinity for penetrating, often unnerving paintings of the human figure. From the unapologetically naturalistic to the quietly sensual, these frank portrayals of the human form, clothed or nude, span the dynamic range of American figure painting. Early 20th-century masterpieces by Robert Henri and George Luks share the gallery with mid-century nudes by Milton Avery and Philip Evergood.
