Gift of Herschel V. Jones, 1916Accession Number:P.4,550 The Forge is the only print from the "Thames Set" to be executed completely in drypoint, and according to Whistler, is the only image he printed entirely by himself. The scene is from the Brittany Coast in France at Perros-Guirac, where the artist was recovering from rheumatic fever. This was the first time Whistler explored the theme of the forge, but he would return to it several times during his career.
