Outside the gates of the temple she meets, and falls in love with, a handsome young man called Kichisaburo_. After the family's house is rebuilt, Kichisaburo_ convinces Oshichi to start another fire so that they will have to move back to the temple, thus allowing the two lovers to be together. Although the fire that Oshichi starts is quickly quelled, Oshichi is put to death for having endangered the city. Here Kiyotada represents Kichisaburo_ playing a shamisen, a three stringed zither.
