| Around 1911, architect William Gray Purcell and his wife Edna began to think about building their own home; a showcase for his firm's expertise as well as a focal point the Purcells' social life. In planning his new "own home," to be built at 2328 Lake Place, Purcell eagerly put to use all he had learned about organic architecture since beginning is collaboration with George Grant Elmslie on the Catherine Gray House. He intended to build a truly progressive home that would nurture a new, "modern American family Life."
