Repairs are made to the canvas. Gesso is used to fill in areas that have been damaged or to support repairs that have been made during past restorations.

A new website feature is set up in the gallery. The Conservator Cam allows website visitors to get a new view of the restoration every five minutes.

Lining Begins
The lining process begins. The conservators apply a heat activated, film adhesive to the canvas. It will provide a firm bond between the original canvas and its new lining layer, yet will be more easily removed in future restoration efforts.

Activating Thermoplastic Adhesive
The new lining layer is applied to the original canvas. Heated platens, expressly designed for use on large paintings, are used to adhere the new lining to the original canvas layer.
