A close friend of William Morris, the architect W. A. S. Benson helped found the Art Workers Guild (1884) and the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society (1887). He also owned a factory in Hammersmith and a showroom in London on Bond Street where he exhibited his metalwork and furniture. This hanging lantern by him was one of the earliest Arts and Crafts designs to utilize electricity.
