More Real? Art in the Age of Truthiness

Saturday, March 23, 2013
2 – 4 p.m.

Pillsbury Auditorium

Presenters: Elizabeth Armstrong, Zoe Beloff, Kianga Ford, and Inigo Manglano-Ovalle

Lecture: Elizabeth Armstrong, "On the Border of the Real"

As viewers of The Colbert Report know, we are living in an age of "truthiness" where things we wish to be true are preferred to things that are known to be true. Exhibition curator Armstrong takes a look at how unprecedented technological change and global social upheaval have caused a dramatic shift in our collective perception and experience of reality in an overview of the show.

Artists' Roundtable: Armstrong is joined by exhibition artists Beloff, Ford and Manglano-Ovalle in a discussion that addresses questions raised by the exhibition.

Beloff, filmmaker and digital installation artist, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and lives and works in New York.

Ford was born in Washington, D.C., and lives and works in New York where she is an assistant professor of fine arts at Parsons, the New School for Design.

Manglano-Ovalle was born in Madrid, raised in Bogotå, Colombia, and Chicago, and now lives and works in Chicago, where he teaches at Northwestern University.
