Making Waves: The Vanguard Radio 1920–1950

Monday, October 14, 2002—Friday, October 3, 2003
Wells Fargo Center

The principal dilemma faced by enterprising radio manufacturers in the 1920s was whether their new communication devices should be disguised as a piece of traditional furniture (talking furniture at that), or exposed as a new modern machine with a grace and dignity of its own. The remarkable range of innovation captured in the latter pursuit is acutely evident in this exhibition, the first of fourteen successive Modernism exhibitions presented in downtown Minneapolis to focus on a single object type.
