Early Renaissance Engravings: North and SouthFriday, July 26, 2002Sunday, January 12, 2003 This exhibition features twenty-eight engravings drawn entirely from the Institute's permanent collection, produced in Germany and Italy from about 1450 to about 1520. These examples illustrate the transfer of stylistic and iconographical influences between German and Italian artists through the exchange of prints, and how the artists of both countries confronted the Renaissance challenge of achieving three-dimensional form in a two-dimensional medium. |
