People in PorcelainFriday, October 4, 2002Sunday, April 6, 2003 This figure is one of a pair of enameled and gilded Chinese musicians designed in 1767 by Joseph Weinmuller and produced by the Ludwigsburg Factory (1758-1824) in Germany. They were recently given to the Institute by Leo and Doris Hodroff, and are joined by other porcelain figures given by Paulette Fink, Kenneth Smith, The Frederick and Margaret L. Weyerhaeuser Foundation, and other collectors in the new Family Center exhibition "People in Porcelain," on view through March 2, 2003. The show highlights selections from the Institute's growing collection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European porcelain figures. |
