"Field Inversion" is a site-specific sculpture by Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) students Luke Axelson and Josh Ritenour. Its sinuous shape is based on a set of connected geometrical planes that create an elegantly simple but mathematically complex suspended sculpture. As visitors go up and down the three-story Target Wing staircase, they can experience dramatic views from different vantage points.

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts invited current MCAD students to submit proposals to MCAD@MIA, a unique opportunity for MCAD students to create a site-specific art installation at the MIA. The juried collaboration aims to encourage the creation of work that responds to the architecture, space, and/or diverse collections of the museum.
