Typography of Another Type: The Modernist Typewriter, 1890--1970Friday, February 9, 2001Sunday, January 13, 2002 To underline the importance of the typewriter in the development of typography, an installation of modernist typewriters, the first in a continuing design series of "case studies," complements the exhibition of modernist typography, "Letter Perfect." Comprising 14 examples, it traces the evolution of typewriter design from 1890 to 1970. While focusing principally on physical design, function, styling, and overall aesthetics, the implications for the appreciation of typography cannot be ignored, especially today, with the advent of computerized desktop publishing. |
