Josefina Aguilar is the renowned member of a family of noted ceramicists from Oaxaca, Mexico. Working in the folk art tradition, she creates figural sculptures known for their liveliness and individual detail. Although she often makes art based on scenes of everyday life, she also is known for her depiction of biblical stories. The selection of objects in this exhibition represent important events from the Bible, all sculpted in Aguilar's warm, whimsical style.
