Formalism meets conceptualism in this exhibition, which explores the museum experience.
Richard Rock has been painting in the galleries of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts since 2001. His small oil paintings depict installations of the Asian and European galleries. Rock paints "history from life" to connect with the minds of the many historical artisans whose works are included in the museum's permanent collection.
Abinadi Meza presents a site-specific video and sound installation made from everyday sound recordings of the museum, and a video of the museum at night. Paintings, sculptures and artifacts emerge and disappear into the darkness, presenting the museum as a repository of memory.
