Rollin Marquette’s Minnesota Artist Exhibition Program (MAEP) exhibition features a site-specific installation that uses the architecture of the new Target Wing as inspiration. Marquette’s sculptures often take on minimalist forms infused with repetitive objects, merging the exhibition space with metal and experimental materials. Interested in ballistics and munitions, Marquette has employed substances such as neoprene, ballistic gelatin, antifreeze, and matches in his sculptures. Their formal beauty highlights the seductiveness of potentially dangerous materials, beckoning closer examination. By pulling the viewer into his work, Marquette forces us to consider the everyday use of the materials and technology, and the science and precision behind them.
