Remembering Gus Gustafson

Minnesota Artists Gallery/Cargill Gallery

"Remembering Gus" pays tribute to artist and collector Gus Gustafson, whose untimely death in 2003 saddened members of the Twin Cities art scene. The exhibiton features selected works from Gustafson's vast collection of artworks by contemporary Minnesota artists and his own photographic works. "Remembering Gus" is organized by a team of artists and curators who have intimate knowledge of the photographer's art and life: Thom Barry, Julie Hartley, Larry Marcus, Tom Adair and Glen Hanson. The exhibition is accompanied by a video documentary about Gustafson, featuring many artists from the community.

Opening Reception:
Thursday, December 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Cargill Gallery.

Panel Discussion: "The Art Scene During the Gus Era"

Moderated by Mason Riddle

WORKS TO BE AUCTIONED
Gus’s entire collection will be sold during a silent auction beginning December 15 and ending at midnight, March 19, the last day of the exhibition. A Web site, www.sinard.com/gus4art, features images and details. More information is available through Thomas Barry Fine Arts, at (612) 338-3656.
The proceeds from the sale will be divided equally among Gus’s immediate family and a scholarship in Gus’s name to fund fine-art photography at the University of Minnesota. For more information about the Gus Gustafson Memorial Photography Graduate Fellowship, e-mail David Madson at dmadson@support.ucsf.edu.

The Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program is an artist-run curatorial department of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts made possible by generous support from the Jerome Foundation, in celebration of the Jerome Hill Centennial and in recognition of the valuable cultural contributions of artists to society.
