Above Is Below: Sarah Bauer / David Hamlow

Friday, December 17, 2004—Sunday, February 13, 2005
Minnesota Artists Gallery
Free Exhibition

Opening reception Thursday, December 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.

"Above is Below" features the spiritually based art of Sarah Chokyi Anne Bauer and David Hamlow, whose distinct bodies of work have evolved out of long-term meticulously defined daily practice. The exhibition will present an installation of repetitive images by Bauer, who holds sacred Buddhist ritual at the core of her artistic inquiry; and a structure built by Hamlow, who records his daily life by saving, sorting and arranging the commercial packaging and detritus of his daily consumption.

Sarah Chokyi Bauer is a Fiscal Year 2004 recipient of an Artist
Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Her work in "Above Is Below" is made possible in part by a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, and by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, made possible through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and a grant from the National Endoment for the Arts.

The Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program is supported in part by a generous grant from the Jerome Foundation.
