For his landscapes, Clement Haupers had his favorite sketching spots in the Kettle River area, the bluffs of Lake Pepin and the area south of Hastings, Minnesota. In 1944 Haupers had his first show at the Minnesota State Fair. Under Haupers' leadership in the 1930s, it had become an important and influential venue for artists.
