Join us for Art in Bloom, a four-day festival of fresh floral arrangements and fine art, presented by the Friends of the Institute at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This spring celebration highlights the talents of more than 150 floral artists, whose work will be on view next to the works of art that inspired them. From Thursday through Sunday, you're invited to experience the floral fragrance throughout the museum, enjoy a lecture or demonstration, attend a party or free docent tour, and browse in the Art in Bloom Shop.

Lecturer: Nancy Clarke

As the former chief floral designer at the White House, Nancy Clarke created thousands of beautiful decorations and floral designs for six American presidents, their families, and the world's foremost dignitaries. Clarke will offer a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into select inner workings of the White House, sharing personal and professional anecdotes. Her talk will include insights into the distinctive styles of six First Ladies, and she will demonstrate classic White House décor appropriate throughout the year, as well as holiday themes and other memorable design elements. Why do we garden? To nurture and cultivate, yes, but also to express ourselves. To many, the garden is a stage set, where the drama of life plays out in quiet and fanciful ways. This talk, by landscape expert and garden designer C. Colston Burrell, examines the shifting roles gardens have played in our culture, from victory gardens to outdoor living rooms, and suggests ways to make them integral to the everyday experience of gardeners and non-gardeners alike. See Scott Ellingboe of Bachman?s create an artistic floral interpretation. Relax with chair massages from The Spa at The Marsh and learn to use essential oils with Radiant Sense of Beauty. For just a hint of sweetness, River Chocolate Company will provide samples and discuss how different floral and natural ingredients are mixed into chocolate to create a variety of flavors.

VIP bags containing special offers and surprise bonus gifts will be offered for $10; proceeds benefit the Friends of the Institute. Art in Bloom floral artists will be on hand throughout the galleries to discuss their inspirations.
