Join us for this classic rite of spring, now in its 26th year of providing timeless art and fresh flowers.

Every spring, the Friends of the Institute present Art in Bloom, enticing your senses with more than 150 fresh floral interpretations of artworks in the MIA's permanent collection. From Thursday through Sunday, the MIA will be bustling with speakers, evening events, family activities, and more.

Open museum hours (until 9 p.m. on Thursday). As always, general museum admission is free; some events and lectures charge nominal fees.

Proceeds from Art in Bloom 2009 will benefit the Friends Children's Fund, which provides enriching opportunities for young people to experience and be inspired by the world of art.


10 – 11 a.m.
The Art of Observation
Pillsbury Auditorium

Photographer, author, and landscape designer Rick Darke will take us on a visual tour of global gardens, natural habitats, and urban landscapes. On the way, he?ll offer stimulating insights into the art of observation and its value in enriching your own creative process.

Coffee for morning-lecture ticket holders will be served in the Fountain Court 30 minutes prior to the lecture.

His work has filled the pages of Architectural Digest, Town & Country, and Southern Living, and he has also appeared on ?The Martha Stewart Show.? Delight in the floral creations of this lively floral artist known throughout the world.
