Dear Antiques Show Supporters:
On behalf of our many loyal supporters and constituents, we wish to announce the cancellation of the 2009 Antiques Show and Sale.
It is a difficult decision—especially coming on the heels of celebrating our 25th successive show last year. After reviewing the many interrelated financial factors such as dealer participation, customer base, and monetary support, we believe it is in everyone's best interest to let the year pass while reviewing the best steps to take for 2010. In brief, the primary reason for this decision is one of economics. A number of other major antique shows throughout the country have done the same for similar reasons. It is a harsh reality check for all of us.
The Antiques Show and Sale is organized and presented by the Antiques Show Committee in concert with the MIA's Department of Architecture, Design, Decorative Arts, Craft and Sculpture under the aegis of the Decorative Arts Curatorial Council. It enjoys a national reputation as one of the premier shows in the Upper Midwest. Maintaining the same high standards for 2009 would be unlikely given the economy's dramatic downturn.
The Advisory Committee is confident the show can and will continue when the financial base is once again firmly established. We will keep everyone advised as future plans are confirmed. And, to that end, we look forward to your continued support.
